adesso SE, listed on the Dortmund stock exchange with a turnover in excess of Euro 800 million, strengthens its position in the Italian market with the acquisition of WebScience s.r.l., the Italian Agile Digital Factory.
The acquisition of the thriving software factory strengthens the Italian presence of adesso, which only entered the Italian market last year. The adesso Italy team of WebScience and its existing Italian customers will benefit in the future from all the excellent synergies that the adesso Group can offer.

adesso was supported by the advisor Equita K Finance (Clairfield Italy), part of Equita Group, and by Pedersoli Studio Legale as legal advisor.
WebScience was supported by Belluzzo International Partners as financial advisor and LCA Studio Legale as legal advisor.

For Dirk Pothen, a member of the Executive Board of adesso SE and head of the Group’s internationalization process, the merger with WebScience is a real blessing: ‘We are integrating with an established and well-established company in one of Europe’s most financially attractive hubs. The size of the company alone – this is in fact one of our largest acquisitions in recent years – will certainly have a significant impact on our international growth, which is currently taking place in 13 important European markets. Furthermore, I like to use a play on words that echoes our philosophy “We just do it now!” which translated into Italian contains the name of our company: “adesso [now] you can do it!”.

Despite the fact that the sale of his company means the end of an important era, WebScience founder Stefano Mainetti expresses his pride in what his team has achieved: ‘I am truly thrilled to see the WebScience team joining such a renowned international group like adesso, after more than twenty years of independent growth and development. Clearly our technological innovation and forward-looking approach caught the attention of adesso, which was looking for a partner to strengthen its expansion in Italy. At the same time, this partnership will take our core business to the next level. We are delighted to receive this important recognition and look forward to establishing adesso as a leading brand in the digitisation process of Italian companies”.

Francesco Micotti, CEO and co-founder of WebScience adds: “We want to thank our entire team for what we have achieved. Now that we are part of a strongly development-oriented international Group, our employees can look forward to a promising future that will also bring with it new opportunities for professional development.”

Clients of WebScience, which includes renowned companies such as Benetton, Sisal and Elior, will have access to all the services offered by adesso Group, which over time has established its leadership as a partner in the digitisation of companies operating in different areas in German-speaking markets. adesso Group offers a full range of consulting and software development services primarily in the fields of banking, finance, public administration, automotive, manufacturing, energy, transport, healthcare, trade, trade fairs, media and sport. The Group of adesso employs more than 8,300 employees in 13 European countries and has achieved an important growth path in recent years.

The company

The software factory WebScience, an Italian company founded in 2000 with around 100 employees and a turnover of EUR 10 million in 2022, specialises in agile software development, the modernisation and realisation of customised digital applications, the evolution of application architecture towards cloud-native paradigms, the design of migration paths to the cloud and the realisation of low-code applications. As it is adesso, WebScience is focused on the optimisation of relevant and strategic processes of companies operating in various sectors.
Currently, the company, based in Milan, has a staff of 100 distributed between Northern Italy in Milan, Southern Italy in Lecce and Bulgaria in Sofia. This fits perfectly with the adesso brand values in terms of management, strategic orientation and cultural identity.
All these factors were key requirements that led towards the acquisition and will allow the consolidation of the position of adesso on the Italian market and set the course to become one of the country’s leading IT players.
The current management of WebScience, which includes the founder Stefano Mainetti (Chairman), Francesco Micotti (CEO) and Massimo Ficagna, member of the Board of Directors and CEO of WebScience-Bulgaria, will be joined by Andrea Buzzi, currently Site Manager of adesso Lugano in Switzerland, who will become a member of the Board of Directors as a representative of the parent company adesso SE. In this function Mr Buzzi will oversee the integration of WebScience into the Group on a European level.
adesso is committed to ensuring the continued operation of WebScience by fostering the independent and passionate approach that has always distinguished it, even while maintaining the company’s Milan offices.

Speaking of adesso in Italy, the latest news from the adesso Group in the sporting sphere should arouse the interest of all football fans in the WebScience team: in fact, adesso is the official partner of the FC Internazionale Milano women’s team for the 2022/2023 season, with an excellent impact on brand visibility thanks to one of the most important and followed football clubs in Italy. What better way to celebrate the merger of WebScience and adesso Italy than to go to the stadium together to cheer on the Nerazzurre of Inter?
